Loes Gunnewijk from GreenEdge won the European season-opener. Specialized-lululemon put two riders on the podium when Ellen van Dijk finished second and Trixi Worrack third. A twelve rider break formed on the Côte de Trieu, then Gunneswijk went up the road solo when the race hit the cobbles with 20 kilometers to go.

“Twenty kilometres before the finish, I attacked on the cobblestones, and I immediately got a gap,” Gunnewijk explained. “I rode alone for five kilometres, and then Ellen came up to me. We shared the work until the finish and I beat her in a sprint to the line.”

Trixi Worrack won the eight-up sprint for third ahead of Pauline Ferrand-Prevot of Rabobank. Full results are over at Wielerland, though not it appears on the official race site. Go figure.
